The next ABSA Calitzdorp Port & Wine Festival

18 - 19 May 2012

2011 Festival report back
Our historic Klein Karoo village, embraced by the Swartberg, Rooiberg and Gamkaberg mountains was "full to the rafters" the weekend of 16th - 18th June for the ABSA Calitzdorp Port and Wine Festival.  A full and diverse programme was enjoyed by all at the local cellars and the historic Calitzdorp Station.  The wine cellars,  Axe Hill, Boplaas, Calitzdorp Cellar, De Krans,  Du'SwaRoo, Peter Bayly, TTT Cellars and Withoek, the festival hosts, thank everyone who supported the Festival and hope everyone had a great and wonderful experience in our town.

The premier events showcasing olive oil and olives,  wine and port with food (Boerekos, Port, Bollywood and Ballroom), the port and wine pairings with chocolate and cheese and the exploration of the different styles of Port were almost all sold out.  Many Festival visitors enjoyed our Biodiversity exhibition and presentations, the evening candlelight meander through town and the pipe organ recitals.  The wide and diverse offering of quality lifestyle market and food stalls satisfied most visitors and the stall holders have expressed their thanks for the support and custom received from the Festival visitors.  Local Klein Karoo musicians entertained Festival visitors with their talented performances at our music venues and there was a steady flow of visitors through our art galleries.   The Port Dance and Long Table Brunch were favourites with many and were very well supported.  Funds from these events are used for various community based projects.  The Youth Art Expo revealed a wide range of artistic talent amoung our local school children.   Restaurants and bars were packed to capacity as Festival visitors enjoyed our local Karoo and Portuguese themed menus and our local Ports and wine.

Calitzdorp is always calling !

Do not wait for  the next Festival.  Our town always has much to offer.  We invite you to visit us at anytime of the year.  Our region has a unique biodiversity with rare flora and fauna to be enjoyed all year round.  We are conveniently located on Route 62 and are connected to the rest of our land by good roads which wind through the most beautiful poorts, cross majestic passes and view scenery so beautiful you just have to see to fully appreciate it.

Our renowned ports and wines are always available from the local cellars.  Our restuarants willing to serve you and we have a wide range of top quality accommodations in various guesthouses and B&B's.   Come to Calitzdorp now, you will not be sorry and your visit will serve as an ideal practise run for our next Festival.
